The Thanet Academy’s ‘Wolf Cub’ program has been designed as a preschool to the main club, catering for children from 4-years old. The sessions are modified Taekwon-Do classes. The main focus is to provide a club that is fun, motivating and enhances all areas of the child’s development.
How ‘Wolf Cubs’ Will Benefit Each Child
Through involvement in Taekwon-Do, key skills are developed including:
- Listening skills
These skills can be applied to school, work and continued into adult life. The children are actively encouraged to achieve in all aspects of their life and to be the best that they can be!
Children need structure and discipline to make them feel secure. Taekwon-Do teaches these skills which can also be applied to all areas of their life.
From a young age it is important for children to understand why we need to keep fit and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Taekwon-Do enhances,
- Spatial awareness
- Muscle tone
Taekwon-Do give children a positive way to burn calories, whilst learning an effective method of defending themselves – even if it makes them fitter, enabling them to run away … its effective!
Through Taekwon-Do activities children learn
- Turn taking
- Verbal and non verbal communication
- Understanding of acceptable behaviour
Teamwork is an important aspect of Taekwon-Do training. Good friendships are built, whilst developing a common interest with peers. Children also learn to respect themselves, as well as fellow students.
Goal setting is a major component of Taekwon-Do training. Through regular achievements children develop a positive self-image. Through positive visualization children develop their confidence, personal pride and a sense of self-belief.
