Master Wolf's Taekwon-Do Academies (MWTA) proudly presented the MWTA British Championships, which was held on Saturday the 4th of May, at the Winter Gardens, in Margate.
The main hall at the Winter Gardens was presented extremely well and looked very professional with 7-matted areas. The running of the tournament was second to none, with plenty of umpires and referees working throughout the day, Master Wolf and the Wolf Academy Instructors ran a very efficient and enjoyable days event.
The tournament included both pattern and sparring categories, and was open to colour belt and black belt competitors, both junior and senior. The sparring categories ranged from novice sections through to the black belt sections, which showcased very experienced black belts, including many Taekwon-Do and Kickboxing World Champions.
The competitors included members from other groups around the UK and Europe, and teams traveled from as far as Ireland and Germany to take part.
There were also divisions, which catered for children as young as 4-years old, which starred the MWTA Wolf Cub members.
The Wolf Cubs were inspirational, not only showing outstanding discipline and mature sportsmanship, but also great competitive spirit.
The Wolf Cub program starts children from 4-years old. They displayed amazing talent in their sparring ability, and most shocked of all, were the parents of some of the children who could not believe that their child was capable of such intense focus, as well as mental and physical discipline.
At this tournament were over 20 current World Champions, many of whom are from the local area.
The tournament finales were two amazing Team events, which upstaged even last years! This featured an even with junior girls Teams, England verses Ireland. These bouts in the team event were some of the highlights of the day and had the crowds on the edge of their seats!
Also the men’s Team which included many of MWTA’s European and World Champions, was an incredible display of Taekwon-Do skills and with an amazing atmosphere generated by the crowd and the showmanship of the competitors, it was a spectacular event enjoyed by all, especially the competitors!
Within the next few years we hope to build this tournament into a major event that is renowned throughout the UK and Europe, and brings hundreds of competitors to Thanet.
Proceeds from this tournament and any future fundraising is being put towards the ever-increasing costs of sending the MWTA students to International tournaments such as the World Championships later this year. MWTA look to sponsor as many students as possible, availing local people the opportunity to bring more success to the area.
MWTA would like to thank the following companies who kindly provided donations and sponsorship for this event, Hub Enterprise, Giorgios and Kabuki, Fosters Law, Lansdell Soft Drinks and Bookers Cash and Carry. Also Thanks to Russell Harper Photography who provided professional photos from the days events.
Many thanks also to Mr Paul Palmer, the Winter Gardens Manager and his team for their hard work and professionalism.
Master Wolf would like to extend his thanks and gratitude to all of the sponsors and special thanks to all of the people who worked so hard to make this tournament a success. Well done to all of the students who competed, from the UK and Europe.
